McDermott hopeful on defender

Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed that Andy Griffin will soon be back in action. The experienced full-back has not featured since the Royals played out a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in late August. But having been sidelined for six weeks due to a calf strain, the former Stoke and Newcastle man is now closing in on a return. Even if Griffin is not available for the clash with Swansea on Saturday, McDermott hopes to be able to call on him again in the near future. "We don't know how long he will be out for yet and it is a rather annoying one to be honest," McDermott told skysports.com. "He was out for a little while with a hamstring injury and then he picked up a calf strain and we can't quite get the calf strain right yet, but we are hopeful that he will be able to return to action in a week or so."
