While Olsson pens new Baggies deal

West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo insists he has no intention of sending Abdoulaye Meite out on loan. The Ivory Coast international was strongly linked with such a switch over the summer, and has seen those rumours resurface of late The 28-year-old defender is currently out of favour at The Hawthorns and is yet to make a first-team appearance this season. He is behind Jonas Olsson and Shelton Martis in the Baggies' pecking order, while Leon Barnett is considered by many to be Di Matteo's third choice centre-half. The Italian coach is, however, keen to retain the services of Meite and claims a short-term move for the African is not in the pipeline.

Speculation

"That is just paper talk," he told the club's official website. "He's been on the bench for the last two games and I have no reservations, if we need him, to put him in the squad." Weekend reports suggested Newcastle and Hull City were keen on acquiring Meite's services. Meanwhile, West Brom vice-captain Olsson has put pen to paper on the new and improved four-year deal offered to him last week. He is now tied to the Baggies until the summer of 2013.
