Doncaster Rovers have secured the signature of Leeds United's young defender Sam Hird on a one-year contract.

Hird, who spent three months on loan at Rovers last term, has opted for a permanent move to the Keepmoat Stadium outfit.

The 19-year-old stopper was on the lookout for a new club this summer after being told his Whites deal would not be renewed.

"There were many factors that drew us to Sam - one of which is the fact that he is a good footballer," director of football Mickey Walker told the club's official website.

"Sam was part of a very big squad that Leeds United have and whilst they were freefalling, it was very difficult that a player as young as Sam could get a chance.

"We offered him a loan deal and he came here and impressed. He's not the finished article; he is a young man, but he has come here and joined a very good football club."

Meanwhile, Doncaster's Youth Player of the Year Matt Noble has signed a fresh one-year deal with the South Yorkshire club.

Noble is eagerly anticipating the challenge of making the step up to Doncaster's first team.

"It does feel weird, but there's no doubt that I am looking forward to it," said Noble.

"I'll be playing with better players and playing against better players. It's a great test to see how good you really are."
