Mariners snap up Fenton

Grimsby Town have signed centre back Nick Fenton to replace the departed Ben Futcher.

Grimsby Town have signed centre back Nick Fenton as a replacement for the departed Ben Futcher.

Futcher joined League Two rivals Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee on Thursday.

With manager Graham Rodger needing to fill a void in his back-line, the Mariners boss has turned to the former Manchester City and Notts County player.

The 26-year-old leaves League One club Doncaster Rovers for an undisclosed fee, and will be available for Saturday's trip to bottom club Bury.

Fenton will be joined at Blundell Park by former Oldham Athletic and Stockport County midfielder Danny Boshell, who joins Grimsby on non-contact terms.

Boshell impressed Rodger during a pre-season trial after being released at the end of last season by Stockport.
