Doncaster Rovers are lining up a double swoop on Aberdeen.

The ambitious South Yorkshire side are looking to land both Phil McGuire and Finnish ace Markus Heikkinen.

McGuire is out of contract at Pittodrie and he now looks set to move to Doncaster.

The 25-year-old central defender is believed to have shunned around 15 clubs to join Rovers.

"I had a lot to consider which is why I decided to wait before agreeing to join Doncaster," he said.

"It was nice to have so many clubs interested in me but I have always been keen on playing down south.

"I'm going to gain a lot of experience playing in England and I'm looking forward to the new challenge.

"Doncaster are an ambitious club who have fantastic training facilities and a new stadium on the way.

"They just missed out on the play-offs last season but hopefully I can help them do even better in the next campaign."

McGuire could be joined at Rovers by former Dons team-mate Heikkinen - who has decided to quit Aberdeen.

The Finn had been in talks with Greek giants Olympiakos, while he also attracted interest from Germany.

However, he is now set to hold talks with Doncaster about a move to England.
