Torquay United have moved to replace the departed David Graham by landing striker Adebayo Akinfenwa from Doncaster Rovers.

The 22-year-old joins the South Devon club after helping Donny to the old Third Division championship last season.

Akinfenwa has signed a one-year deal with The Gulls, having moved to Plainmoor after recent spells with Rushden & Diamonds, Leyton Orient and Boston United following a 14-month stint with Welsh club Barry Town.

Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior admitted the loss of Graham to Championship club Wigan Athletic forced him to move for Akinfenwa.

"I am loath to say Adebayo is a replacement for David Graham, he's very much his own man with his own style of play," Rosenior told the club's official website.

The new striker joins the League One new boys, as Torquay have also extended the contracts of Michael Small and Craig Taylor.

Taylor has signed a two-year contract with The Gulls after completing his first full season with the club last term.
