Aldridge wants Jones appointed

Former Tranmere boss John Aldridge has urged his former club to appoint Dave Jones to the managerial vacancy at Prenton Park.

Rovers, who are bottom of the Football League, sacked former Exeter assistant Rob Edwards on Monday after the rookie manager won just two of his opening 12 league games in charge. The League Two outfit stressed they are searching for an experienced manager with "an extensive network of contacts in the game" and Aldridge believes Jones fits that billing perfectly. The 58-year-old was the bookies' early favourite for the position following suggestions that he had been present at Rovers' most recent two games. Liverpool-born Jones has been out of work since leaving Sheffield Wednesday last year but has vast experience across the divisions having also enjoyed spells in charge of Stockport, Southampton, Wolves and Cardiff. Aldridge, who managed Tranmere between 1996 and 2001, said on his Twitter account @Realaldo474: "I sincerely hope that the next choice of manager for TRFC is the right one.It really hurts to see the league table. "No my days of management are well I (sic) the past.Dave jones could be a good shout????of (sic) he's available."
