Tranmere snap up Barker

Goal-shy Tranmere have increased their attacking arsenal with the acquisition of George Barker on a one-month loan from Swindon.

Rovers have scored 11 goals in 11 League Two games this season and only Hartlepool and Cheltenham have managed fewer. With joint top-scorer Cole Stockton set for a spell on the sidelines due to a pelvic injury, boss Rob Edwards has brought in 23-year-old Barker to offer a threat up front. "I'm pleased to be able to bring George to the club," Edwards said on his club's official website. "With Cole Stockton injured our options in attack have been reduced. George will give us pace up front and will cause opposition defenders problems." Barker has made seven appearances for his parent club this season, but all of them have come off the bench. He began his career at Brighton before moving to the County Ground last January and has never scored a Football League goal.
