Robinson return delights Moore

Andy Robinson earned the praise of his manager after scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Shrewsbury.

The influential Robinson, 34, who had been sidelined with a hernia problem, quickly reminded Rovers what they had been missing by drilling home the winner from the edge of the box on the stroke of half time. "Somebody said afterwards that Robbo hadn't scored since August, but he's been injured for a long time," said Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore. "It was a great finish. It was a long ball in which was headed down and it's probably had three or four bounces which has probably done the keeper, but it was nice when it hit the back of the net, that's for sure." Moore insisted Robinson has a key role to play in lifting Tranmere away from the lower reaches of the League One table. He added: "Robbo gives us that experience. He never gives the ball away. He's not as energetic as he used to be, but he's a fantastic footballer, a great talker, a winner. "He shouts and moans and groans, wants to win the five-a-sides, he's just one of those guys. He certainly helps the team when he's playing." Moore was particularly delighted with a welcome clean sheet given his side were down to their last fit and available recognised central defender in Ash Taylor. "We only had one centre half in the club," he said. "We put Liam Ridehalgh in there and I think he was probably our best player. "It's nice to keep a clean sheet and it just shows that in football you just never know."
