Tranmere midfielder Andy Robinson has agreed a new one-year contract at Prenton Park with an option of a further 12 months.

Robinson played 28 games for Rovers last term, scoring four goals, and is in his second spell with the Wirral outfit having also enjoyed stints with Swansea and Leeds.

The news comes as a boost to Rovers boss Ronnie Moore having seen captain John Welsh reject a new deal to join npower League One counterparts Preston earlier this week.

"I'm delighted Andy will be staying with us," said Moore in a club statement. "He is a fantastic footballer who was probably our best player in the final couple of months of the season.

"He's got great vision, experience and skill and he creates chances for others. He's a great character around the place and a very important member of the squad."

Robinson added: "I'm glad to have signed and I'm pleased I'm going to be here for another season. We weren't a million miles away from being a successful team last season and I'm hoping we can kick on."
