Crewe keen to keep hold of home-grown youngsters

Crewe have announced they have offered new contracts to three of their most promising youngsters. The League Two club have moved before the end of the season in a bid to prevent Adam Dugdale, Harry Davis and AJ Leitch-Smith moving on in the summer. Dugdale and fellow defender Davis have new two-year deals on the table while AJ Leitch-Smith has been offered another year with an option for a further year. Dugdale, 24, has made 33 league starts this season after returning to Crewe following a spell in non-league. The 20-year-old Davis has made his first-team breakthrough this term, racking up 30 league starts, while Leitch-Smith, a 22-year-old forward, has scored six goals from 21 league starts. Crewe boss Steve Davis will continue to assess his squad looking ahead to next season and has not ruled out offering new deals to other out-of-contract players this summer. Much depends on which division Alex are playing in next season as they are pushing for promotion. With 10 games left they are just three points outside the play-offs.
