Addicks continue perfect start; Oldham humbled at Yeovil

Early pacesetters Charlton grabbed their second win of the season as they beat Notts County 2-1 at Meadow Lane to maintain their position at the top. Scott Wagstaff and Paul Hayes scored for the visitors in the first half, but despite substitute Cristian Montano pulling one back for the Magpies, Charlton held on for the victory. Preston, who started life back in the third tier with a defeat after their relegation from the Championship, managed to get points on the board. But it ended up as just one thanks to Andy Barcham's late equaliser for Scunthorpe at Glanford Park to make the score 1-1. Sheffield United, one of the favourites to bounce back up to the Championship, managed victory at Bramall Lane against Brentford, with youngster Jordan Slew scoring and Richard Cresswell adding another in the 70th minute. Colchester played out a 1-1 draw against Wycombe at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, with Scott Rendell's 61st minute penalty cancelling out Ashley Vincent's first-half strike.

Hatters held

Huddersfield, another side expected to challenge for promotion this term, failed to beat Rochdale as they drew 2-2, with Jean Louis Akpa Akpro cancelling out Lee Novak's 15th minute opener. Substitute Danny Ward came on to seemingly have given the Terriers all three points, but Ashley Grimes scored late on to gain a point for the Dale. Promoted Stevenage and Chesterfield shared the spoils thanks to an equaliser right at the death from Jack Lester to clinch a point for the Spireites, who had been trailing since the 40th minute after a goal from Darius Charles. Bournemouth gained a 2-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday thanks to goals from Adam Barrett and substitute Harry Arter to get the Cherries' first points of the campaign. Oldham finished the day bottom of the division after a 3-1 defeat at Yeovil, who gained victory thanks to Edward Upson's goal shortly after the break and further strikes from Andy Williams and a penalty from Paul Wotton. Tranmere continued their good start to the season with a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient, with David Buchanan scoring the winning goal on the hour mark to give them maximum points so far. Hartlepool and Walsall had to share the spoils at Victoria Park in their 1-1 draw, with two goals in the first five minutes as Colin Nish quickly equalised from Jon Macken's third minute penalty. MK Dons also got their first win of the season at Exeter 2-0, with goals from winger Jabo Ibehre midway through the first half and substitute Dean Bowditch sealing the points with a 90th minute goal. Carlisle recovered from their opening day defeat to gain a 2-0 win over Bury, with James Berrett breaking the deadlock thanks to his 68th minute strike and Ryan Noble sealing victory in the 90th minute.
