Matt Gill is Bristol Rovers' captain for the forthcoming season after being brought to Memorial Stadium by new manager Paul Buckle.

Gill expressed his delight to BBC Radio Bristol, saying: "The manager called me about it and I'm obviously very proud to be named captain. "I always thought I was a leader on the pitch even if I didn't have the armband, but the manager had given me it and I'm really pleased." Rovers face AFC Wimbledon on Saturday and Gill, who has made 427 career appearances, will be leading the team. He added: "I'm looking forward to leading the boys out. We've done all the preparation we can do and we are looking forward to getting started now."
