Roberto Martinez would not stand in the way of Jason Koumas if the midfielder wants to leave Wigan on loan.

Midfielder needs to build match fitness, according to boss

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez would not stand in the way of Jason Koumas if the midfielder wants to leave the DW Stadium on loan. The former West Brom player has been linked with a return to his old club after making just eight Premier League appearances for the Latics this season. Koumas has only featured in the FA Cup since December and Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo has let his interest in the 30-year-old be known, while another team are also said to be tracking the Welshman. Loan switches to the Football League are still permitted, despite the closure of the transfer window, and Martinez admits that a move could materialise. "We have had clear interest from two teams for Jason," said the Wigan boss. "I think Jason probably needs that, he needs to play games. "He has been in a mode over the last three years where he hasn't played enough football. "It would probably be a good opportunity for Jason to regain that match fitness, so we will see how that develops, but for the moment there is nothing to mention."
