TRANMERE ROVERS have handed a new contract to defensive starlet Ryan Taylor.

The 18-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two year extension to his current deal at Prenton Park.

Taylor penned his first professional contract in April this year, but now he has committed himself to Tranmere until June 2006.

Taylor only made his first team debut in the recent Worthington Cup win over Hartlepool United - where he scored the winning goal.

"Ryan has done exceptionally well since coming into the team," said chief executive Mick Horton.

"We know that scouts from clubs in The Premier League and First Division have been watching him and so are delighted that we have been able to secure him on a long-term contract.

"The signing shows that the club's continuing investment in our youth programme is clearly paying dividends, with Ryan being the latest player to progress into our first team."
