Simek purrs at weekend showing

American defender Frank Simek feels Carlisle's weekend win at leaders Tranmere was their best display of the season.

The Cumbrians have taken seven points from their last three league games and thanks to Rory Loy's solitary goal just before half-time at Prenton Park moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone. "It was probably our best performance and result of the season so far," Simek told the club's official website. "It wasn't pretty at times but we did what we had to do. I think you could tell straight away that we were all on our game and that started with the two centre halves. "They didn't give their players an inch of space and we all won our tackles and headers. We went on from there and I think we deserved the victory." The 28-year-old full-back also saluted matchwinner Loy, who struck his first goal for the club since recently returning from a year on the sidelines due to a broken leg. Simek added: "Scoring just before half-time was great and we're all really pleased for Rory because he's been out for so long. "He's come a long way and hopefully he can kick on from here and be a big player for us for the rest of the season. "Everybody is buzzing for him because he just wanted to be involved again. We all hope he'll stay fit and score some goals for us."
