Beck told to make his mark

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has urged teenager Mark Beck to take a leaf out of Joe Garner's book and develop a "nasty streak".

Abbott has been without key man Lee Miller this season due to a troublesome ankle injury, while another senior forward, Danny Cadamarteri, has recently been struggling with a groin problem, forcing Abbott to turn to Beck, who is yet to score in the league this season after making nine appearances off the bench. Abbott feels on-loan Watford striker Garner, in his third spell on loan at Carlisle after extending his stay until November 20, is the ideal role model for academy product Beck and BBC Radio Cumbria: "I think Mark needs to take a good look at Joe and the way he puts himself about. "He should realise how much of an impact he could have if he had the same determination and nasty streak as Joe. "I was disappointed with Mark and I have told him so because he's a player that has got quite a lot of tools to be a really, really good player at this level. "We think he's better than he probably thinks he is himself. He can make a bigger impact than he's making and really be a thorn in opposition sides."
