Preston chairman Peter Ridsdale has reiterated the club's desire for a high-quality striker ahead of the upcoming season.
Ridsdale revealed on Tuesday that North End had made a bid for an unnamed forward, which had been rejected. Preston have so far signed strikers Lee Trundle and David Amoo but with Neil Mellor having retired and Iain Hume seemingly out of favour with manager Graham Westley they could be left short up front. "We have over the last few days been negotiating for a particular player at a price that we think is realistic," Risdale told BBC Radio Lancashire. "We ultimately know if we are going to get promoted this year we need to add to what we've got a goalscorer. "We did a lot of early business, I think we did a lot of smart business, but we did all of that business without paying a transfer fee. "We have been trying during the whole of that period to find the targets that we had for goalscorers and we wanted them at the right price. That is our intention but it was to be the right person at the right price."
