Chantler hails Cumbrian crowd

Carlisle defender Chris Chantler has said a supportive Brunton Park crowd has played a key role in his fledging career at the club.

The 21-year-old arrived at Carlisle initially on loan from Manchester City, playing primarily as a midfielder, but seized his chance in manager Greg Abbott's starting line-up at left-back after making the move permanent in January. "It's fantastic with the way the crowd have reacted to me because it helps you settle," Chantler told the club's official website. "It's almost like they ve got your back in a way because they've cheered me on if I've made a little mistake, or anything like that, and it gave me a huge amount of confidence." Chantler missed most of the run-in as the Cumbrians were challenging for a play-off finish due to a hamstring injury. "I had to come off early in the game at Wycombe and that was the worst feeling in the world," he added. "The fans behind the goal started chanting my name because I think they could see how upset I was and that kind of thing really does give you a boost."
