Charlton went eight points clear in League One after Johnnie Jackson's two penalties earned them a 2-1 win over MK Dons.

Jackson's two penalties enough for Charlton to claim 20th win

Johnnie Jackson scored two penalties as Charlton Athletic went eight points clear at the top of League One with a 2-1 victory over MK Dons at the Valley, their 20th league win of the season. MK Dons were reduced to 10 men on 42 minutes when Gary McKenzie was sent off after an off the ball incident, the precursor for Jackson to score twice from the spot prior to half-time. Dean Bowditch pulled one back for the visitors late on but Charlton held out to maintain their unbeaten home record in the league this season. Sheffield Wednesday dropped out of the second automatic promotion spot after going down 1-0 at home to Stevenage. Scott Laird turned in a corner just before half-time in the decisive moment at Hillsborough and to add insult to defeat, the Owls' cross-city rivals Sheffied United beat fourth-placed Huddersfield Town 1-0 to climb into second place. Neill Collins' fifth-minute header was enough for the Blades to prevail at the Galpharm Stadium. Steven Schumacher's 88th-minute goal earned Bury a 1-1 draw with Chesterfield, who had taken the lead shortly before half-time through Nicky Ajose. A point was still enough to move Chesterfield off the bottom of the table on goal difference above Rochdale, who went down 1-0 at Scunthorpe, Garry Thompson scoring the only goal in the 64th minute. Scunthorpe's win moved them out of the relegation zone above Wycombe Wanderers, who were beaten 3-2 at home to Yeovil Town. Steve Gillespie came off the bench to score twice in Colchester United's 2-1 home victory over Brentford. Gillespie netted in the 83rd and 85th minutes to rescue the situation after Niall McGinn had put Brentford ahead. Oldham Athletic saw off Walsall 2-1 at Boundary Park, Filipe Morais and Robbie Simpson on target for the Latics in the first half. Notts County beat Exeter City 2-1 at Meadow Lane and substitute Danny Mayor earned Preston North End a 1-0 success over Hartlepool. Jimmy Smith's 75th-minute goal earned Leyton Orient a 2-1 win at Bournemouth, while Carlisle United and Tranmere Rovers played out a goalless draw at Brunton Park.
