Sporting Gijon coach Manuel Preciado has no plans to let experienced striker Nacho Novo rejoin Rangers during the transfer window.

Former Rangers striker unlikely to be on the move in January

Sporting Gijon coach Manuel Preciado has no plans to let experienced striker Nacho Novo rejoin Rangers during the transfer window. Novo left Gers for Gijon in 2010 after spending six years at Ibrox and has recently been linked with a return to the SPL champions. The 32-year-old has spent a brief period training with Ally McCoist's side and is out of contract at Gijon at the end of the season. He has yet to be offered a new deal and has admitted to being tempted by the prospect of playing for Rangers again, but Preciado does not want to lose Novo in January.

Not leaving

Preciado said in the Daily Record: "Novo is not leaving in this transfer window. "The players brought to the club five months ago will be staying. I have faith in them. "I believe in their ability and there won't be any players quitting this month. "They are under contract and they will be here at Sporting until at least the end of the season."
