Sweeney backs Amoo to shine

Bury midfielder Peter Sweeney believes on-loan Liverpool winger David Amoo has the makings of a top-class footballer.

Sweeney was the Shakers' hero in Saturday's 4-2 win at Walsall, opening the scoring with a magnificent 25-yard strike before laying on two more goals, but Amoo also caught the eye by giving home full-back Mat Sadler a torrid afternoon. And former Millwall and Stoke man Sweeney believes further displays of that nature from the 20-year-old for the Shakers will prove vital to his development. "David Amoo is perfect when you're under pressure," he told the Bury Times. "He can make a channel ball a good pass by virtue of the fact he's got so much pace. He's got everything you need to be a modern-day footballer. I keep telling him about how hard you have to work. "But the kid can go as far as he wants to go. We all know he's a brilliant player - he's already proved it on a number of occasions. "We wouldn't mind getting him on our books. Reserve-team football has got nothing on doing that on a Saturday. He'll tell you that himself. The longer we have him the better it is for Bury."
