Carlisle manager Greg Abbott is looking forward to working with Manchester City defender Chris Chantler.

Chantler, 20, a product of City's academy, is expected to join the Cumbrians on an emergency loan deal until early January. Carlisle boss Abbott told the club's official website: "We spoke to David Platt a few weeks ago about him and we brought him up here so that he could train with us and see how we do things. "He's had a good time, he has settled in well, and the way we have structured this one means he will get time to work with us and we can take it from there. "From what we have seen he definitely has potential but, and as we keep saying, nothing is definite until the paperwork is done. We don't foresee any problems with that and we should be announcing that he has signed early on Thursday morning." Chantler, who joined the City academy as a nine-year-old, made his senior debut under Roberto Mancini at the Stadio Olimpico against Juventus in a Europa League group tie on December 16 last year - on his 20th birthday.
