Striker won't be allowed to join Championship rival
Leeds manager Simon Grayson is considering whether to let striker Billy Paynter go out on loan to a League One club after insisting he will not be allowed to join a Championship rival.
Paynter, 27, has been unable to win back his place in the side following the opening day defeat at Southampton, initially due to injury, and the former Swindon forward has been linked with loan moves to several clubs.
Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that up to half-a-dozen Championship rivals were interested in taking Paynter, but Grayson says that will not happen.
However, Grayson is open to the idea of letting him out for a stint in the lower leagues to experience some more regular football.
Grayson told the club's
official website: "I've had a call from a League One team about Billy. We'll decide if it's the right thing to do.
"One thing for certain is that we wouldn't consider Billy joining one of our rivals in the Championship, so any deal would have to suit all parties.
"He wants to play games, which he isn't doing at the moment and I've no problems with letting him out, but until we decide properly there's nothing doing."
