Carlisle United have turned down Chester City's request to take striker Derek Holmes on loan.
The League Two club were interested in taking the former Hearts, Ross County and Bournemouth hit-man on loan for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old looked set to join The Blues in a January deal, but Holmes failed to agree personal terms with Mark Wright's side.
With the Football League loan window now open, Chester made an attempt to strike a loan deal for Holmes, but Cumbrians boss Neil McDonald rebuffed their request.
"At this moment in time, Derek is part of our plans so until that changes, we will be keeping him here with us," McDonald told the club's official website.
