League Two Round-Up

Wycombe and Chester share six goals in a Causeway Stadium thriller.

Second met third at The Causeway Stadium, with unbeaten Wycombe taking on Chester, and the game lived up to expectations, finishing 3-3 after a pulsating, topsy-turvy encounter.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes, Stuart Drummond firing home. Free-scoring Wycombe equalised through Tommy Mooney (24), before Keith Curle's side regained the lead, Michael Branch with the goal (36). Roger Johnson pulled Wycombe level on the stroke of half time, leaving the tie perfectly poised.

The second half began well for Wycombe. Mooney grabbed his second of the game (50), but Branch responded with his second on the hour mark. Both sides pressed for the victory but in the end had to settle for a point each.

Leaders Grimsby missed the chance to extend their advantage. The Mariners faced a tough trip to Gay Meadow to play in-form Shrewsbury, and came away with a battling 0-0 draw.

Mansfield stay rooted to the foot of the table after a 3-1 defeat at high-flying Leyton Orient. Joe Keith netted after 16 minutes to send Orient on their way, and Gary Alexander doubled the lead early in the second half. Mansfield fought back hard and Giles Coke pulled a goal back, but it was not to be their day and Efe Echanomi wrapped up the points for The O's (77), who move up to second after results elsewhere.

There was late drama at Bury. Dean Keates opened the scoring for Lincoln just before the break, but a Simon Whalley strike in stoppage time rescued a point for The Shakers.

Rochdale stayed in contention with the table-toppers courtesy of a 2-1 victory at home to Rushden & Diamonds. Blair Sturrock struck for the Spotland club (45), before Magnus Okuonghae brought Rushden level. Substitute Jonathan Boardman scored a cruel late goal to give Rochdale the points.

Wrexham beat Stockport 3-0 at The Racecourse Ground. Ludovic Dje was sent off early for County, and the Welsh side soon took advantage. Jonathan Walters put Wrexham ahead on 21 minutes, and a brace from Mark Jones early in the second half sealed the points.

Elsewhere, Northampton and Darlington played out a goalless draw at The Sixfields Stadium, and Oxford's good run was held up by newly promoted Barnet, Brian Talbot's side coming away from London with a 0-0 draw.

Struggling Torquay gained a crucial three points on their travels, beating Cheltenham 1-0, Alan Connell with the only goal of the game (67).

Managerless Bristol Rovers grabbed a somewhat fortunate 3-1 victory at Carlisle. Alan O'Brien put The Cumbrians ahead after just seven minutes, but own goals from Kevin Gray and Zigor Aranalde in the second half, plus a last minute strike from Junior Agogo, handed Rovers victory.

Boston were victorious against Peterborough, Ian Ross scoring from the penalty spot (63) to give The Pilgrims a 1-0 win, while Macclesfield drew 0-0 with Notts County.
