Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis has confirmed he is staying after the club rejected a reported £7m bid from West Ham on transfer deadline day.

The 29-year-old France forward joined from Lyon on a four-year contract in June 2014 but struggled to hold down a regular starting role - prompting a bid for his services from the Hammers.

Gomis now looks set for a spell as first-choice with Wilfried Bony having been sold to Manchester City and he started Sunday's 1-0 victory at Southampton.

Gomis said via Twitter: "I have decided to stay with Swansea. I wanted to share this with you before the end of the transferts (sic) window. It's the best choice for me."

"Even if I was sad before because I didn't play a lot. Now everything is different. I believe in this team and this project. I have spoken with the coach and I have his confident (sic) and he have mine. I am lucky to play and live to Swansea.

"Everybody are very Kind and helpful with me. I'll do all my best to help the team 2 catch his goal. To all Swans fans I am jack!"

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins welcomed the news, telling Sky Sports News HQ: "I think, looking back, Gomis joined us last summer. During the last few months he's probably felt that he hasn't had enough time on the pitch.

"However, I think with the sale of Wilfried Bony in January, he'll have a chance to show what he can do for us. He can show why we brought him to the club and I'm sure we're all looking forward to seeing it."

Gomis, who has 12 caps for France, began his professional career at St Etienne before switching to Lyon in 2009.
