Swansea match-winner Gylfi Sigurdsson feels the momentum is building nicely at the Liberty Stadium after they recorded back-to-back Premier League wins.

The Iceland international curled in a brilliant free kick to earn maximum points against opponents Aston Villa to help them stay within four points of fourth-place Southampton in the race for European places.

I think it was very important as well, so it was a good goal and quite happy with the team to get three points.

Garry Monk's side will now hit the road with league trips to Liverpool and QPR preceding an FA Cup third-round tie at League Two strugglers Tranmere on January 3.

"It was very good for the confidence," Sigurdsson told Sky Sports. "Two good wins in a row and six points out of six so hopefully we can get another three points in the next game."

Gary Monk says his Swansea team were magnificent in difficult conditions against Aston Villa

The midfielder, who has been a revelation since returning for a second spell at the Welsh club, admitted the winning free-kick was one of the best he has scored in a Swansea shirt.

"I saw Wilfried (Bony) went in the wall so it was blocking the goalkeepers view. I took a chance and was hoping he (Brad Guzan) would take one ot two steps towards the other corner. Luckily I hit the target and it went in.
