Garry Monk couldn't believe his Swansea side lost.

Swansea manager Garry Monk was left stunned about how his side lost 2-1 against Tottenham, believing they created more than enough chances to win the game.

Harry Kane put the visitors in front inside four minutes after rising highest to score his 12th goal of the season from a corner but Swansea responded in excellent fashion and Wilfried Bony levelled things up early in the second half.

The Swans were on the front foot for large periods but Christian Eriksen’s last-gasp strike earned Spurs all three points and Monk called the dramatic goal “the classic sucker punch.”

“It was a difficult start for us,” Monk said.

“We gave away a cheap a goal, an individual mistake from us and obviously that gave them the lead and it took us about 10 minutes to get going but I thought for the last 15-20 minutes of the first-half we grew back into the game and started to create and get the momentum with us.

“Second-half we got the equaliser back and it looked like there would be only one team who’d win. You’ve done all you can, you’ve created numerous chances to win the game or at least score a few more goals and again an individual mistake costs us and we end up losing the match.”

Monk was equally disappointed with the way his attacking players squandered chances despite sending a message out about being clinical at half-time.

“There were numerous situations,” he said.

“Our strikers, Gylfi, Jonjo and Ki all had good chances. In terms of what we’ve been working on it was disappointing not to put those chances away and at least hit the net a few more times. I could only see one winner and you could sense it coming but unfortunately we didn’t deal with their second goal well enough.

“You have to be clinical in those situations but we were creating numerous chances. We were on the front foot the whole second-half and it’s mesmerising at times how we didn’t win that game but it’s the classic sucker punch.

“We didn’t really deserve that but we come away with no points from a complete effort from us and the only team that looked like winning it. You’ve done all you can, you’ve created numerous chances to win the game or at least score a few more goals and again an individual mistake costs us and we end up losing the match.”
