Tate suffers fresh setback

Crewe manager Steve Davis has revealed that on-loan defender Alan Tate is struggling with a slight recurrence of his groin strain.

The 32-year-old Swansea centre-half made six quick appearances for Alex after joining in September but has been sidelined since late October. Davis had hoped to have Tate back for last weekend's 4-1 loss at Leyton Orient but the player felt another niggle on the same injury. "Alan has had a problem with his groin and he felt it again on the Thursday," Davis told the club website. "We took him out as a precaution and that is why we didn't take him to London. We are hoping that it's not too serious but it is the same groin as before. "Al has been great since he came here. He has added great experience because he has been there and done it. He has been a success and has had an opportunity to play at higher levels. Not many of our players have been able to do that because they are just starting out on their careers. "He is the example for them and he has been really helpful both on and off the pitch. He is great around the place and it is unfortunate that he has picked up this slight recurrence."
