Swansea City goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has hailed the defensive performance of his side against Manchester United on Saturday.

The Swans kicked off their 2014/15 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

Ki Sung-Yeung put the Welsh outfit ahead just before the half-hour mark, but Wayne Rooney restored parity for the hosts on 53 minutes.

However, Swansea came back and scored through Gylfi Sigurdsson in the 72nd minute to secure the three points.

United had as many as 14 attempts but only five of those were on target, leading Fabianski to praise his defenders.

"Our back four was really good at United," the South Wales Evening Post quotes the 29-year-old as saying.

"When you look at the game, we didn't give them many chances. We were very solid, we talked well and our shape was always shifting. We didn't let them have space.

"The manager has worked hard on the defensive side of the game and I think you could see that against United. Hopefully there will be more improvements and we can be even better."

However, Fabianski added that Swansea cannot rest on their laurels and need to build on the win against Louis van Gaal’s side.

"We have to make United a great victory by winning our home games," said the former Arsenal player.

"We can't get too excited about one win. The important thing is that we build on the result.

"It's another difficult game against Burnley, and we must back up United with another big performance."
