Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is confident striker Alvaro Vazquez will deliver goals in the absence of injured duo Wilfried Bony and Michu.
Bony is out of action with a hamstring tear, while an ankle injury has sidelined Michu, with the duo having scored 16 goals between them this season.
On-loan Getafe forward Vazquez has yet to find the net in 11 outings for Swansea, although he only played his first full match for the club in the weekend defeat by Manchester City.
Vazquez did have a goal ruled out in the Europa League match with Valencia while coming close on another occasion in the same match, and Laudrup is happy to have the 22-year-old leading the line against Newcastle on Wednesday.
"He got close against Valencia," Laudrup said. "He had one saved on the line and one legal goal which was not given.
"I'm pleased with his performances in the two games and I think he will do the same again on Wednesday.
"Sometimes in the moments where you do have injury problems the other players give a little extra, and that's what has happened here as well.
"So I have a lot of confidence in the players I have available even without Michu and Bony."
Laudrup was given a lift with the news that Bony, who he initially thought would be out for several weeks, will be back in action shortly along with Angel Rangel, who is recovering from a calf problem.
"It's always good to hear when players aren't out for as long as you thought they would," Laudrup added.
"As a manager you always want as many players available as possible but injuries are a part of football as it is a contact sport."
