Brendan Rodgers: No interest in leaving Swansea after signing a new dea at the club

Brendan Rodgers has rejected rumours linking him with Tottenham after signing his new contract at Swansea.

Rodgers is among those being touted to take over at White Hart Lane should Harry Redknapp make the move to succeed Fabio Capello as England manager.

Rodgers, who has just signed a new three-and-a-half year contract at the Liberty Stadium, has won plenty of plaudits for the attractive style of play displayed by Swansea, and they lie 10th in the Premier League table after an impressive recent run of results that included victory over Arsenal and draws with Tottenham and Chelsea.

But he insists he would not currently be interested in moving to the Londoners if the opportunity to manage the club became available, although he is flattered to be linked with other jobs.

"The most important thing for me is to have peace and satisfaction in my job, I don't know where else other than Swansea that I can be as happy as I am," said Rodgers.

Flattered & honoured

"If speculation comes with me doing the job well then I am flattered and honoured. However, this is the place I want to be, hopefully I can be here for the duration of my contract, that's my aim.

"I am already at a top club, Swansea is a top club. It might not be in the Champions League and, at this moment in time, challenging for trophies, but in my own mind I am at a top club.

"This is a club that is run fantastically well, I get the opportunity to manage this club how I want to and do everything here.

"I have a brilliant relationship with the board and a better one again with the chairman.

"I was 50/1 to get the Swansea job, I was a long shot, so the bookies are not always a good guide.

"It's incredible, you sign a new contract and the day you sign it you are linked with moving away but I am very happy here and my family love it in Wales.

"I am 39 years of age. I hope to prove myself over a long period and my only concentration is on Swansea City."

Focus

Rodgers' focus is on this weekend's meeting with Norwich at the Liberty Stadium.

The Canaries, who also won promotion last season, currently sit one place and two points above Swansea in ninth, and Rodgers hopes the teams can serve up a game that reflects just how well they have adapted to life in the top flight.

"We have had some terrific games against Norwich and we know it will be competitive, but every game has been that way this year, whether it has been against Norwich, West Brom or Tottenham, although there is the extra motivation that whoever win will finish the game above the other side," added Rodgers.

"Paul Lambert has done a fantastic job there and it should be a fantastic game and another good demonstration of how well the two teams have been doing."
