Ashley Williams: Hailed as 'invaluable' by Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers

Sky Bet

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has hailed Swansea star Ashley Williams as 'invaluable' as the defender attracts admiring glances from the Premier League's big guns.

Williams has been a standout performer for Swansea this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed among the elite sides in the Premier League.

The Wales international has been an ever-present in the league this season and Williams is set to extend a remarkable record of appearing in 162 consecutive league games against West Brom this weekend.

Rodgers knows he could face a fight to keep hold of the 27-year-old in the summer, but he insists it would take some fee for him to even consider selling the classy centre-half.

"I don't know what price you'd put on him," said Rodgers of Williams.

Top, top player

"I'm not so sure I'd swap him for many. He's an absolute top, top player.

"He's invaluable. This is a guy that can play football as well as defend.

"A man who I know people looked at and said he wasn't big enough or tall enough to be a centre-half at the top level.

"And it's great now at this stage of his career, having worked his way through, that he's proving that.

"Man-of-the-match performances against Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea.

"But the thing is he doesn't just produce performances in the blue chip games, he produces them whenever you've got to dig in.

"He's a wonderful player and thankfully for Swansea and for Wales he's got a lot more good years in him yet."
