Northampton Town boss Colin Calderwood has dismissed speculation linking the Third Division club with Swansea striker Lee Trundle.

However, the Cobblers chief did concede that Swansea counterpart Kenny Jackett had contacted him with regards to the Vetch Field favourite.

Trundle has established himself as one of the most prolific hit-men in the lower divisions but Calderwood insists he would struggle to meet the player's wage demands.

''Kenny Jackett rang me to see if we were interested,'' Calderwood told the club's official website.

''I have always rated Lee as a player who I like a lot but financially it is a no-go.

''We have a number of strikers on our books already for next season.

''Any new players we bring in have to be the right players and fit within the budget we have set ourselves.''
