ROBERTO MARTINEZ has finally completed his free transfer to Division Three bottom club Swansea City.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Vetch Field until the end of the season.

The former Wigan Athletic and Motherwell midfielder becomes The Swans' ninth new signing since director of football Brian Flynn took charge of the Welsh club back in September.

Flynn is delighted to have brought Martinez to Swansea and hopes the midfielder will help get his side climb off the foot of the league table.

Flynn told the club's official website: "We thought we had it tied up last Thursday but it wasn't to be.

"The most important thing is that he always wanted to come here and our patience has paid off."

Martinez stated that he is looking forward to getting some regular first-team action with The Swans.

He told Walsall's official website: "It is a challenge that I am looking forward to.

"The fact that I will be playing regular first-team football was the main attraction."

Meanwhile, Walsall have welcomed back striker Karl Hawley from a five-month loan spell with Scottish Second Division side Raith Rovers.
