Ferguson fumes after stalemate

Darren Ferguson was left to rue failings in both boxes after Oldham held Peterborough to a 2-2 draw at London Roan.

Ferguson was fuming at the manner of both goals conceded against a Latics side who extended their unbeaten run to seven matches. And the Posh chief also ordered his own strike pair Conor Washington and Luke James to be more ruthless after seeing a host of good opportunities to go begging. Ferguson said: "We performed a lot better than when beating Fleetwood last weekend, yet only ended up with a point. "That said, we were nowhere near good enough in both boxes. We had three one-on-ones and didn't score any of them, and we conceded two very poor goals. "The stats will show I need more goals from my strikers. Conor and Luke have only got three between them so far and that must improve. "There's no question Marcus Maddison is our biggest threat currently and we changed to a formation that allowed him to pop up in central areas." Ferguson's unhappiness at sloppy defending was in evidence after just six minutes as Jonathan Forte was left unattended to fire Oldham ahead after being picked out by a Danny Philliskirk delivery. Forte was only a whisker away from a second before Michael Bostwick marked his return from injury with a low long-range blast that went in off the post in the 18th minute. Washington and James both fluffed one-on-one opportunities later in the first period before Posh hit the front six minutes after the restart as Marcus Maddison earned and converted a free-kick. But Posh failed to hold on to their advantage as Genseric Kusunga hauled away-day specialists Athletic - who have lost just one of their last 12 fixtures on the road - level. The Swiss defender, whose only previous league goal for the Latics also arrived against Posh last season, struck with a bullet header from Mike Jones' corner in the 66th minute. Both teams threatened to snatch victory with no-one coming closer than Maddison who struck the post with 10 minutes to go. It was the second time the woodwork had frustrated him. Oldham chief Lee Johnson was far happier with the outcome. He said: "It goes down as a good point even though we were not at our best. "We've proud of our unbeaten run and we extended it despite looking a bit leggy and ragged at times. "It could have gone either way and the fans will be reasonably pleased that we have come to a top side like Peterborough and got a draw. "I felt their second goal should have been saved and that was disappointing. Maddison is clearly a very good player though. I like him a lot."
