Oldham's new signing Liam Kelly is raring to go after joining from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

Manager Lee Johnson was a team-mate of Kelly's at Kilmarnock and the midfielder admits that played a big part in luring him to Boundary Park. Kelly told the club's website: "I'm delighted to be here. We've been talking about it over the summer and I've been in touch with the gaffer so we've managed to get it done. I'm pleased to come here and I'm just looking forward to playing again. "We played together a year and a half ago for a season and we got on really well. We had a good combination in midfield so he was definitely a big factor in me coming here." While he arrives from a different club, there are still familiar faces to help Kelly settle into life in Greater Manchester. "I played with James Dayton for a few years at Kilmarnock and we got on really well," he explained. "He's a fantastic player and he had a good season as well last season. I also know James Wilson who was at Bristol City so it's good to know a few lads when you are going into a new dressing room." At just 24 Kelly has over 130 professional appearances under his belt, finding the net 18 times and he insists the squad has what it takes to go all the way in League One next season. "I can have a positive influence on the team," he said. "I've been injured over the last season but I just want to get back and play football. I hope the team can move forward from where we were last season and pick up some good results. "We should be looking up towards the top six and there is no reason why we can't get there. There are some fantastic players in that dressing room and the gaffer is really driven so that's the attitude we've got in there and it's something we can achieve."
