Back to reality for Dickov

Paul Dickov is ready for League One action when Oldham travel to Walsall on the back of their FA Cup triumph over Liverpool.

The aftermath of Sunday's astonishing 3-2 win at Boundary Park was soured by speculation over Dickov's future at the club following a dismal run of one point from eight league games. The former Scotland international held talks with chairman Simon Corney on Monday morning and, buoyed by three deadline day additions in Lee Barnard, Chris Iwelumo and Jonathan Obita, he is prepared for the challenges ahead. "We've had to get over it (Liverpool) quickly - it's back to the league and we need some points," Dickov said. "It wasn't just Monday morning, me and Simon talk a lot and, as I keep telling him and I keep telling you lot, there's nobody that needs to tell me that the league form's not good enough. "I've been in the game a long, long time to know that. I'm humble, but I'm confident in my own ability as well." Oldham's players offered strong support to Dickov when his job was brought under question, but their manager insists actions speak louder than words. He added: "The players are coming out and saying how much they love me and how much they back me. "I would much rather they kept their mouths shut and we went and got a result on Saturday."
