Oldham are considering legal action against former player Joe Jacobson for a remark on social networking site Twitter.
The 24-year-old left-back, who joined Accrington in January, tweeted that the Latics players had not been paid this month.
A statement on Oldham's official website read: "Oldham Athletic are considering taking legal action against former player Joe Jacobson.
"It follows his statement on Twitter saying 'the Oldham boys have not been paid again' which is totally untrue.
"The club can confirm that all contracted players and staff have been paid on time this month.
"They say it is unhelpful when former players publish untruths on social media and the club is not prepared to sit back and do nothing about it. Latics contacted Jacobson who immediately removed the statement from Twitter."
