Wolves will not appeal against the red card issued to George Elokobi during the FA Cup tie with Doncaster.

Wolves still unhappy about red card

Wolves will not appeal against the red card issued to George Elokobi during the FA Cup tie with Doncaster on Saturday. The Cameroon left-back was given his marching orders at the weekend following an aerial challenge with James Coppinger in the 2-2 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium. Manager Mick McCarthy was not happy with the decision but club secretary Richard Skirrow has confirmed no appeal will be lodged. He told Wolves' official website: "Having spoken to everyone involved, and had another look at the incident which led to George's dismissal at Doncaster, we have decided not to appeal. "Knowing George as we do, there was never any malice or intent on his part which I think is backed up by how he kept his eye on the ball at all times. "As a result we feel the red card received for the challenge was harsh. "However, the referee's report talks about a reckless challenge which was late, at speed, and with excessive force and endangered the safety of the opponent.

Proof

"While we could take issue with one or two of those words, it is the referee's judgement, and at any appeal the onus would be on us to prove that a serious and obvious error had occurred. "So although we remained disappointed by the decision, convincing a commission that a serious and obvious error has taken place is another matter, and there is always the danger of a further punishment being applied. "Whilst obviously still upset and frustrated by the events of Saturday, George has accepted the decision not to appeal." Wolves have the chance to beat Doncaster and advance to the fourth round of the cup at the second time of asking when they host Rovers next Tuesday. Elokobi will miss that game, as well as the Premier League encounters with Manchester City and Liverpool.
