Double boost for Shakers

Bury have appointed Chris Brass as assistant manager and have also handed a new deal to Mike Jones.

Brass back at Gigg Lane; Jones signs on

Alan Knill's long search for an assistant manager is over after he announced Chris Brass as his new right-hand man. Brass returns for his second spell at the club having originally moved to Gigg Lane in January 2006 as a player and eventually became youth coach. However, following the departure of then manager Chris Casper, Brass was installed as the caretaker manager - taking charge of the Shakers for two months before the full-time appointment of Knill. Brass had continued to play for non-league outfit Hyde United but is now likely to hang up his playing boots as he succeeds Wayne Allison, who left the role of Bury's short-term assistant manager earlier this week.

New deal

Bury midfielder Mike Jones has signed a two-year-contract extension with the club. Jones has impressed in Alan Knill's side since his summer arrival from Tranmere - making 30 appearances and scoring three goals. The 21-year-old winger has now committed himself to the Shakers and will remain at Gigg Lane until the end of the 2010/2011 season.
