Oldham moved up to second in League One courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Northampton at Sixfields.
Having fallen to a surprise 3-0 home defeat to Bristol City last week Oldham boss John Sheridan will have demanded an improvement from his side and his players duly delivered on their travels.
It took just 61 seconds for Oldham to break the deadlock as Richie Wellens struck his third goal of the season but in an entertaining opening, Northampton were level by the 24th minute when Andy Kirk punished some ponderous defending.
With the game heading for a stalemate at the break, Paul Warne ensured Oldham went in ahead when he netted with a smart finish from Chris Porter's pass.
Oldham's top goalscorer then put his side in cruise control when he headed into an empty net after chasing a long pass from Will Haining, with Northampton keeper Mark Bunn recklessly left stranded out of his goal.
With two minutes remaining Jordan Robertson made for an anxious final few minutes when he marked his debut from the bench with Northampton's second.
