New Wrexham striking hero Juan Ugarte believes his side are very much on course for a place in the LDV Vans Trophy final in Cardiff.

The Spanish hit-man bagged a tremendous hat-trick in his side's 5-3 win at Oldham Athletic and, despite the home side's late fightback, Ugarte thinks The Latics have much to do if they are to overturn the deficit in the second leg.

"It was a very important game," he told Sky Sports News.

"We won 5-3 and now we have to play at home.

"We are winning and two goals up so they must work a lot to win the game."

Scott Vernon, who scored twice for Oldham, begs to differ and believes the outcome is far from settled.

"Anything can happen," he asserted. "If you thought they were going to come here and win 5-3, I don't think many supporters would have thought that would happen.

"We're in with a shout and we'll go there and try our best."
