OLDHAM ATHLETIC manager Iain Dowie recently attended a reserve team match between Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United, sparking rumours that he is trying to bring Michael Chopra in on-loan.

The 18-year-old wonder kid has been in impressive form for the reserves netting nine goals in five games including two hat-tricks.

Latics manager Dowie is a known admirer of the young striker, who recently made his first team debut in the Worthington Cup tie against Everton.

However, Oldham's chief executive Alan Hardy quashed the rumours and told the club's official website:

"Chopra, like Richard Butcher is one of a number of players we have watched should the need arise to strengthen our squad in the future but we are not looking to do so at this time."
