Johnson hails vital victory

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson hailed a "massive" 1-0 win over Bradford in their scrap for survival.

The Glovers have only scored six league goals at home all season and bagged their first league win since September thanks to new signing Gozie Ugwu. The former Reading striker returned to Yeovil, where he spent time on loan in 2012, and started up front with fellow debutant Jamar Loza, on loan from Norwich. The Glovers' goals drought was finally broken on 25 minutes when Sam Foley's free-kick was flicked on by Kieffer Moore and Ugwu placed his header past Pickford. Moore, a striker by trade, started at centre-half and was singled out for praise by his manager ,who was delighted with a clean sheet. He said: "It was a welcome win that's for sure. The boys really worked hard to beat a team right up there who beat Millwall 4-0 in the cup in midweek. "They had that ability in the game to put the ball in the box and we stood up to them. I thought our two centre-halves did very well. We have to praise Kieffer on his debut, because it was like his debut, playing at centre-half, I thought he did brilliantly. "We didn't say too much before the game about 'vital' and 'massive', but I can say that now - it was a massive win for us because you can't be too far adrift." The Bantams succumbed to their second league defeat on the bounce. James Hanson proved a threat up front and came close with his head on more than one occasion. But despite falling short of finding an equaliser, Phil Parkinson could not fault his side's efforts after an uncharacteristically slow start. He said: "We started slow and Yeovil started the better and after the goal I thought we did well. "We couldn't find that moment of quality to get us a goal. All the lads gave absolutely everything after the week that we have had. We spoke in the hotel about the fact that Yeovil were going to start quickly they are fighting for their lives and we had to be ready for that. "We have lost six points in the last couple of games so that's how damaging it is, but I couldn't fault the lads for their spirit and effort and we have had that in abundance in recent weeks but we couldn't produce it today."
