Johnson critical of officials

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson described referee Peter Bankes' decisions in his side's 2-0 defeat at Barnsley as "unprofessional".

Johnson was angered by Nugent's violent conduct, which saw the on-loan Cardiff defender dismissed after a tangle with George Waring in the 26th minute, and Banke's decision to award Barnsley a 70th-minute penalty. Barnsley striker Waring, on loan from Stoke, scored on his professional debut to open the scoring in the 50th minute before Conor Hourihane converted the disputed spot-kick after the Irish midfielder was adjudged to have been brought down by Yeovil goalkeeper Jed Steer. The loss was the Glovers' fourth successive league defeat, leaving them bottom of the table and five points from safety. Referring to the red card and penalty, Johnson said: "It was two bits of, we think, unprofessionalism - one from our player. "It's absolutely stupid and unprofessional to get sent off in a game like this and leave your mates. Whether he's retaliated, or whatever he's done, it's a bad piece of play. "We believe it was a sending off. I haven't seen the video yet but we believe he has (swung an arm). "The other one, the unprofessional bit, is the penalty. We had two (penalties given against us) at Bristol City that we asked about and we know they weren't penalties so we know we were unlucky there and we believe this will be another one that the officials will end up telling us it wasn't a penalty. "He's an honest lad Jed (Steer), he knows when he's given a penalty away and he held his hands up for the (first) goal because we thought maybe that was a foul but he said no. "Certainly for the penalty, he was really upset. He did get there first, definitely." Barnsley boss Danny Wilson was pleased to secure the three points and agreed with Johnson's assessment of the game's key decisions. "It was an important win for us," Wilson said. "I think the league position and the league points puts a bit of pressure on you and if you don't win your home games then obviously the pressure mounts up on you. "I thought the players managed the game very well. The conditions were very, very difficult, for both teams. "Getting into the second half at 0-0, I fancied our chances with the wind to our back. Obviously there was a sending off, as you well know. I don't think it made it any easier really, it's still tough. "It was a sending off, he's thrown his arm out, he's thrown a punch so you can't defend it. "(For the penalty incident) I heard that the goalkeeper got a touch on it. He's saying he got a touch on it and I have to say I thought he did. "Whether he got the touch on the ball after contact, I'm not sure but he did get a touch on the ball."
