Derry dismay at defeat

Notts County boss Shaun Derry felt his side threw away three points after shipping two late goals in a 2-1 defeat by Yeovil.

Veteran midfielder Gary Jones had been harshly shown a red card by referee Stuart Attwell for a 28th-minute foul on Nathan Smith, but Notts took the lead on 63 minutes when Michael Petrasso, on loan from QPR, slotted past Glovers goalkeeper Jed Steer. But two goals in the final 10 minutes from defender Jordan Clarke earned Yeovil their first league win since September to leave Meadow Lane shell-shocked. Derry was devastated at the result and said the club plan to appeal Jones' dismissal. "I don't care what anybody says we deserved to win, but we haven't and we crack on again," said Derry. "I am not going to talk about the incident. But I find it frustrating that I can't talk about it when I can stand here and be put on the spot. I have seen the incident and we will appeal. "Gary is devastated. He has been brilliant and I felt for him at full-time. It was a tough day. We crack on again. "We were heroic for 60 minutes and adapted very well to the change in system. To a man they were absolutely brilliant, but two mistakes cost us dearly. "It's such a cruel game at times. I am sure Gary Johnson will tell a different tale but I felt we deserved to win the game. "Michael was clever for his goal. We just needed a chance. We kept Mikey on because he's something different and he's clever. He took his goal brilliantly." Yeovil had begun the day bottom of League One, but climbed to 22nd place and are now just a point from safety, much to the satisfaction of manager Johnson. "We knew we had to come into the lion's den because they are a side who are in good form and their supporters really get behind them," he said. "We had to hang on in there. I was a little bit disappointed in the fact we didn't really create enough when it was 11 v 11 and then when it was 11 v 10. "It took until they scored for us to say 'hang on a minute, we better get back into it here'. The boys upped it and looked like it was finally 11 v 10 in the latter stages. "They are obviously upset because they've been on a good run and they could have maybe gone into the top two. But we got the two goals to win the game. "Whether it's a sending-off is down to the referee. We weren't screaming in the technical area, but if the ref deems it a sending-off then that's what he does."
