MK Dons benefit from Nugent red

MK Dons' manager Karl Robinson admits Ben Nugent's red card proved pivotal as his side beat 10-man Yeovil 2-0.

Goals from Will Grigg and Daniel Powell came after Cardiff City loanee Nugent was shown a second yellow card 19 minutes into the second period. Having been booked in the first half for a blatant handball, Nugent scythed down Grigg running at full speed. Just four minutes later, the extra man was made to count when Grigg found himself in behind the Yeovil back line before tucking home a cool finish for the opener. Once the game was stretched, Powell was afforded the space to curl in the second on 84 minutes to rub salt into the wounds. The Glovers arguably enjoyed the best chances before the sending off and the Don's gaffer conceded he would have been happy to get away from Huish Park with a point. Robinson said: "I am ecstatic, I really am. Gary Johnson's teams are renowned for always being followers of him, they respect him and work hard for him, and today I thought they (Yeovil) were good. "They are a good side and the sending off really did swing the game. Before the sending off it was even - if anything, they had the better chances. "We were a little bit sloppy, but we won 2-0 and I am very, very happy. "You know me, I am always very honest and I said to (assistant manager) Richie Barker at 0-0 'I'll take a point right now, blow the whistle and we will walk away'. "Ten games is the benchmark and after 10 games we are sitting in a good position. This is a great afternoon for us, this is a difficult place to come and this is a real statement of intent." Yeovil boss Johnson felt his side could have bagged an important three points were it not for Nugent's sending off. Johnson said: "The red card is the turning point and I think we were in it at that point. "We weren't particularly playing well offensively, but you have to stop an MK Dons team in their pattern. "We kept up with all the right things, but the referee was a little fussy and kept pulling the game up. "We had the first two or three chances but the we shot ourselves in the foot which we have done a couple of times this year and made a mistake which was for the lad to get sent off. "It was a sending off, it was two bookings, he's got caught out twice and it's hard enough playing against MK Dons with 11 men, let alone 10. "Then they open up and throw another man forward and they can dictate the game and it's then a difficult task."
