Madden expected Yeovil strike

Scunthorpe striker Paddy Madden said he was always confident he would find the net on his return to Huish Park.

The hitman, whose scored 23 goals for Yeovil, grabbed the equaliser with seven minutes remaining as he poked home to cancel out Kieffer Moore's opener and seal a 1-1 draw. Moore had given Yeovil the lead on 65 minutes when he latched onto Sam Foley's cross and fired in off the underside of the crossbar, just two minutes after coming on as a substitute. Yeovil will go home the more disappointed, having dominated possession for large parts of the game and forced several saves out of Iron keeper Bobby Olejnik. But Madden, who joined United from Yeovil in January, insisted he knew he was going to net against the Glovers, as Scunthorpe earned their first point of the season. He said: "I usually get a good feeling that I might score at some point. I'd been quite quiet up until point, so it was important to me to take that chance. "I did really well against the defender, I dropped him off my shoulder a couple of times and it was a good finish for me. "Every team hits a bad spell at some point so hopefully we've hit ours early. Hopefully getting the draw here will give us the confidence to push on and climb the table." Scunthorpe manager Russ Wilcox praised the way his players fought back to secure a point in the closing stages, which moves the Iron off the foot of Sky Bet League One. He said: "We showed great resilience and great character to come back and get the point in the end. "We have to remember that Yeovil were in the Championship last season and are a very strong side, and coming here it was our ambition to get a point. "I felt we may have nicked it at the end, but I'm pleased that we have come away with that point and I'd have taken it before the game. Yeovil boss Gary Johnson was left disappointed after dropping two points in a game he felt the Glovers should have won. Johnson was left to rue missed chances by striker AJ Leitch-Smith in the first half and Sam Hoskins, but he singled out striker Moore, who suffered a torrid game at Gillingham last week when he missed a penalty, for praise. "With the way the game went we're definitely seeing it as two points lost," said Johnson. "We got the goal at a good time, but then you've got to go on and get the second goal. "The timing of the goal was especially disappointing. The striker's always going to claim it as their own good play, but we only have ourselves to blame for poor defending, and at the end of the day I'm disappointed with the draw and Scunthorpe are going home happy. "It's great for Kieffer and great for us that he got the goal today, and in terms of what it will do for his confidence it'll be like we've gained another player now."
